This coffee table marks the site of a house extension in Munich, where a pine tree once stood. Rather than discarding the tree, it was transformed into the core material of the table, giving new function to its former presence. The structure consists of an inclined oak wood grid, carefully designed so that the pine elements—cut from the original tree—can nest into the openings without glue or fasteners.

Each pine piece is oriented in its natural direction, with the heartwood facing upward, exposing the tree’s age rings and growth history. Additional inlays of applewood, taken from a nearby felled tree, complement the pine and reinforce the narrative of place and time.

The table is both a functional object and a subtle memorial—remembering the site’s natural past while inhabiting its architectural present. It transforms absence into presence, offering a physical and visual reminder of what once grew here.
